Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

To spice it up a little bit extra we have got our Team RedKings pros to join the tournament as well. We have Ramzi Jelassi, who usually plays Omaha online, so watch out for him (RK_PRO_Ramzi) and then we have our Finnish champion in Texas Hold’em, Toni Ojala. Buy-in: $10+$1

Ramzi gives us his 2009 story..

Hello everyone!

Im sorry for not keeping you guys updated in the blog lately about what I have been doing. I know that you have read about me in the Team Redkings blog though so you know that we have been all over the place playing tournaments and what not. I came pretty close to another big score in EPT Copenhagen, but I didnt really make it all the way and finished at 19th place in that one.

I was in Australia for about a month in the beginning of the year after playing the Aussie Millions and I have to say that we had a really nice time down there. Im not much for the cold so being in the sun for a whole month and being able to go to the beach and stuff was great, of course we were very interested in the tennis as well :)

EPT Copenhagen was basically right after I came home from Sydney and I was really playing good and solid there, but you always need some extra luck to be able to win a big tournament like that and it didnt happen this time. I lost a big pot with ATs vs TT when I called an all in and after that I reraised all in for the rest of my chips with KQ and got called by 9Ts, the board came KQ99x and I was out in 19th place. After the Copenhagen week was over I took the train over to Lund in sweden where Jonas and some of my other friends live. Lund is a place that I like to visit once in a while since I have so many good friends that study in that town, and after Copenhagen I stayed there for about 10 days.

I have also been playing alot of onlinepoker at Redkings, I have been playing alot of PL omaha at 10-10 and 20-20 with varying success, but I must say that sometimes there are some big swings in that game.

The most resent trip I came back from is Dortmund, me and Jonas were down there to play the EPT. I got to say that I dont like much about Dortmund but that just made me want to focus more on playing my very best in the tournament. In the main event I was running pretty good in the first levels and had increased my stack to 18k even though I had a tough table with Peter Eastgate, Davidi Kitai and Jonas. It was looking pretty good, but after the dinner break I picked up AKs on a new table and a young guy raised to 800, I reraised to 2300, he made it 6500 and I decided to push all in for my 19,3k, he thought for a while and decided to call with kings so I was drawing pretty slim. The board didnt help me and the kid had me covered so I was sadly out.

Both me and Jonas played the 2k sidevent later the same week, I didnt have alot of luck and lost a big pot with 88 on a 99A8A board when the ace came on the riverand after that i was shortstacked and never got back from it. Jonas had more luck though as you may have red in the redkings blog and he finished 4th in that sidevent for 35k euro. Thats at least 3 finaltables between us so far since we started playing for RedKings :)

Right now im at home in Stockholm for a little while and I am going to play some tournaments here at the casino that are going to be good, the main event is a 25k kronor buy in, so hopefully I will do well in that. In the near future we will also have EPT San Remo and EPT Monte Carlo lurking and both of them are going to be crazy big so that is going to be fun :)

Hopefully you will read about me winning one of those big upcoming tournaments here soon.

Me outside Casino Hohensyburg

Me outside Casino Hohensyburg

I started the EPT Dortmund at day 1B and finished with only 16.000 Chips after a starting stack of 10.000 Chips. On day 2 I was shirtstacked for a long while (approx. 13.000 Chips) and managed to survive until Level 11 (Blinds 600/1200 and Ante 100) with 140 players remaining out of the 660 that participated.

I waited patiently for a playable hand and the chance to double up and then I finally found the 2 Red Kings on the button. A loose German raised in middle position to 3000 and all folded to me, I shoved with my remaining stack of 13000 as I did not really want to give anyone pot odds to call behind. My young opponent called quickly, as he would still have 40000 Chips left if he had lost the hand, and turned over Pocket 6s. Unfortunately I was already doomed on the flop as one of the remaining two 6s showed up and I was not able to improve my hand any more on turn or river and the EPT was finished for me.

I won the event in Casino Bregenz!

I won the event in Casino Bregenz!

On the next day I took the train back home and played the weekly tournament at the same evening (150€ unlimited rebuys, 51 participants) at the casino Bregenz and won it! Of course, the level at the casino Bregenz is not that high as at the EPT, have a look at the following unbelievable example:
I was at the final table as uncontested Chipleader with 50% of the total chips. After 2 limpers at blinds 500/1000 I decided to limp in as well with AT and 3 further players limped in as well. The flop comes down A A 7 and I got top set, all check to me and I decided to check as well … so did all other players! The turn was a 6 and all checked to me again, this time I decided to make a teaser bet for 4000 and just one loose player behind me called. The river was a 2 blank and there were no flush or straight draws and I decided to make a valuebet of 8000, which was about 50% of the remaining stack from my opponent. After thinking for it for a while, he decided to call and it was time for the showdown: My AT for a set of Aces and he turned over KJ off suit for king high!!! I almost fell off my chair!!

At the end, it was not really that complicated to win the tournament and take home the first prize of 5.790€.

Molle tells us about his win and EPT Dortmund!

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The first minute I entered the pokerroom in the casino in Dortmund I saw Michael Tureniec. Day1A was at the 2nd level playing with the blinds 50/100 and as I just enter to rail Michael a bit he busts out. My flow in the EPT Dortmund on my first day wasn’t much better. Something just didn’t feel right. After busting out day one me and Michael went out for a night in Dortmund and had some fun to recharge the batteries for the 2k euro sidevent taking place a couple of days later.

In some weird way it felt like I had more power for this event. Both Michael and I made day two but sadly Michael went out on the bubble. I had achieved a great stack at this time and was just sitting there playing to win as usual. In the field of 30 players there were a couple good players remaining.
At the final five I could honestly say that all of the players remaining were really good poker players. This was kind of fun because actually it is not often that you can say that about the remaining five players of a tournament since tournament poker still contains a good amount of luck.

I’m a bit sad that I can’t say I had that luck in the end as I went out with AQ vs AJ and catching the fourth place of 35k euro instead of winning the event. Now a couple of days later I’m happy about it but I always want to win so just after I bust out it usually feels bad.

Now, finally home again I have a lot of study to do before my exam in the end of this week and after that I’m taking a two week trip to USA with a good friend of mine. We’re planning to spend a couple of days in Vegas but after that we’re planning to drive around in California just catching whatever is on the road.

I think my next big tournament will be San Remo. Until then, have fun!

Molle does it again!

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Maybe some of you remember EPT Prague? Team RedKings didn’t have any luck in the main event, and nobody was happy until…..The side event!

Then we had both Ramzi Jelassi and Jonas “Molle” Molander on the final table, and the winner was Ramzi Jelassi who took home €130.000! A little bit behind him we found Molle who finished fourth and got €29.000.

Now in EPT Dortmund by Pokerstars.com we didn’t have any luck in the main event but we had three players playing in the €2000 side event, Molle, Toni and Ramzi. Toni and Ramzi didn’t manage to get through to the second day, but Molle did. He was a bit shortstacked with 21.000 and an average stack of about 30.000. 81 of the 200 starting players followed Molle to the second day.

Molle wins €35.000!

Molle wins €35.000!

The second day started off great for Molle and in the dinner break after 3 hours of day 2, he was in a pretty big chip lead with 320.000 in chips. He continued playing stable but just before the final table he lost a few very important flips, but he still went in to the final table with one of the biggest stacks on the table. Players went out, and when there only was 4 players left Molle got dealt an ace together with a queen, which is a premium hand with only four players left in the tournament. He moved all-in and was up against AJ, he was far ahead his opponent, just needed to dodge the jacks. In the end it stood clear that the board was containing a Jack and no queens and Molle had to leave the tournament again in 4th position. He got €35.000 for this position, but what a record, two side events of €2000 and two 4th positions! If that doesn’t show that you are one of the best poker players in the world, what does?

Congratulations to Molle, and also to Team RedKings who now made a really good win also in EPT Dortmund!

Only a month left until EPT San Remo, see you then!

Thomas Erichsen, one experience richer..

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Thomas Erichsen - 73th..

Thomas Erichsen - 73th..

Thomas lost half of his stack a few hands earlier and had about 25.000 left, he got dealt 44 and had to make a move, and with the high blinds his only option was to go all-in. So he did, and unfortunately he gets one caller who shows 66. Thomas is now in a very bad position, and it is his tournament life that is on the line. No help on the flop, please give us a four on the turn, no four. River, 8 of spades.

Thomas finished on a VERY impressive position for being his first really big tournament, 73 out of 660, only 9 places from the money. I had a beer with him in the bar, and as I understood it he was very happy with his performance, but of course he was unhappy with not getting to the money when he was so close. But he only paid $3 for this great experience, and he will try to qualify again! He was very happy with being a part of Team RedKings for a week, and also says that he recommends everybody that wants to play a live tournament, should do their first one by qualifying through RedKings.com. Sounds a bit like RedKings propaganda, but that is actually what he said :)

So, EPT Dortmund by pokerstars.com is over for RedKings for this time, but we are already planning for our next trip to EPT San Remo.

Thanks to all who followed the blog and good luck at the tables!
Best Regards,
Your blogger.
