RedKings in full force at EPT Copenhagen..
Written by: adminLadies and Gentlemen it is time for a new appearance from one of the biggest teams on the live poker tour, Team RedKings. This time the qualifiers and pro players is gathering in Copenhagen to battle in the biggest Scandinavian tournament for the year, EPT Copenhagen.
It is a mix of 4 Team RedKings pros and 4 Qualifiers who managed to get their seats in one of the many online qualifiers offered at RedKings.com. As you all probably know everything about the pro players already, I’d like to give you a short presentation of each qualifier.
And for you that is curious, here is the 4 pro players playing:
Ramzi Jelassi
Toni Ojala
Stephan Kjerstad
David Wintersberger
“I’ve been playing poker for about 4 years now, almost exclusively online. For a long time I played mostly MTT’s but I switched to cash games 6 months ago for a new challenge and because big field MTT’s can be pretty frustrating. Predictably, since then I have started to run hot in the few tournaments I have played(won 3/3 99 vs AK at the ft to qualify for this event). This will be my second EPT after Prague a couple years back. I made it down to the final 3 or 4 tables there which was a good experience - hopefully I can go a little deeper in Copenhagen.” Domenic Guerrisi, our first ever Australian player representing RedKings in a live tournament!
“I work full time as a plaster when I finish I like to come home and play online poker I started playing the live events qualifiers and I won the $5 qualifier, and won a ticket to the $320 live event qualifier and I finished 5th now I am happy to represent RedKings in EPT Copenhagen!”
Pieter Van Genderen, our 2nd Qualifier from the Netherlands for EPT Copenhagen! Thank him for his great and exciting story about how he got here!
“My name is Pieter. I started playing in 2006 and am a very frequent player I think. Of course I watch a lot of games on TV and since I started playing poker, I always wanted to participate in a big event like the EPT. Last year I played a lot of satellites for EPT qualifiers but unfortunately failed after many attempts. The tour
This year I looked at the qualifiers here at Red Kings and thought that there was lots of value in these. In my tour of 184 players there were 5 tickets to be won and 8 tickets which could be used to try again so I had to beat 1:10. I decided to buy in directly. By the way this was my largest buy-in ever that should say something….
Short stacked
When the tour started everything went well. The game play was relatively tight and the rate at which players were eliminated was very low. After an hour or so I didn’t get any decent hand for a long time so after a while I was the short stack on my table. The average stack in the tour was 12k while I was at 4k. Blinds were 250/500 so I knew I had to make a move soon. Finally I got pocket 6’s UTG and decided that this was it……I shoved and got called by……..QQ. Horrible scenario. My odds were 20/80 but got the break I needed. The board showed 4, 5, 7, 8 and so I lucked a straight. Phew, wow, unbelievable! The guy who called had 20k so he could manage. With my 8k stacked I still had a problem but of course less urgent. I could wait for a nice hand…
Winning streak
Just a few hands later I got pocket aces in late position. A player in medium position had raised to 4 blinds which is typical for a small pocket pair. I knew that I would further reraise that I possibly wouldn’t get a call. So I could flat call and raise flop or turn, or I could shove all-in to represent a really weak small pocket pair. I shoved and it took him a long time to decide. Eventually he called my all-in with his stack of 12k. I doubled up. I got some other nice hands but didn’t get any action.
10 minutes later: AA again! In early position a player raised 3 blinds while another player reraised to 9 blinds. I knew I was up against a high pocket pair or AK. Again I reraised all-in and doubled up again. Wow what a streak!
After this I got KK while another player had shoved QQ and on another occasion AA while I was reraised by KK. Unbelievable! Each time I found a big hand, another player payed it off in full.
Final table
When I reached the final table I was the big stack for some time with 125k chips while number two had 45k. Also some short stacks with 10k chips made it. I decided that I would not risk anything. I only played premium hands (AJ and up) in a very conservative way. So my stack stayed the same till the end of the game. Saw some really incredible hands from other players though; AJ and AA all in preflop where AJ made a straight, JJ vs AQ where AQ got the straight but was beaten by quad jacks. Amazing!
Finally I made it to the EPT and I am just starting to believe it’s true. Can’t wait to experience the atmosphere and play on the tables of this deep stacked tour. I will let you know what happens next…..”
Then we also have to have a Finn, the already succesful player on the live tour, Kalle Niemi will be playing in red in Copenhagen. For you that don’t remember he finished 2nd in EPT San Remo last year, and had a big payday.
We wish them all good luck!
