Stephan reports from Vegas..
Written by: adminHey!
Then I’m finaly settled in Las Vegas and that is not bad! The trip overseas went ok, apart from the fact that I had to rail 10 hours at the airport in Oslo from friday to saturday. Thats the punishment you get for being dumb enough to not book a hotel there in advance I guess. Anyway, with laptop style and some night food at the airport I managed to get through it and finally got on the plane to London/Gatwick. At first I thought I started the trip with a real bad beat when they told me I couldn’t sit with my travel mates (Siegel, Lansky and Morten). I thought I had to sit alone on the first floor from Gatwick to Vegas. That was very wrong; right after I sat down a stewardess came over and told me: “We are moving you to the upper class”. Yeah. Thats 10 hours in this huge chair that you can transform into a bed and I also had my own mini-bar. Thats pretty awesome.
After getting my sleep on after the trip, we went over to the Rio where the WSOP is held to play event 36, the $2000 no limit tournament. As opposed to last year we now start with 3x buyin instead of 2x buyin in chips, which makes all these low buyin events not that much of a bingo at the early levels.
I was a little late, but I had a decent start and had 7500 after the first two levels ( Started with 6k ).
After the break it wasnt all that smooth though. I was in a situation where I isolated this early position limper, an old guy who had done some strange things at the table earlier. I had AQ. On the flop QJ7 rainbow he leads out with a bet of 800 into 2000, and I make it 2500 with 4500 behind. He instantly asks the dealer: “How much does he have?”, ok I put him all-in, he says fairly quickly after the dealer answered him. Offcourse I almost never raisefold with such a strong hand with these stacks at this level, but it was like everyone on the table knew that his range here was 2 pairs or better to do something like this. It really hurts folding obviously, but it wasn’t such a hard decision since this guy tabled all his hands. Knowing this I made the fold and he proudly showed QJ for top two and took down the pot.
After this it got a little hard with zero cards and 3500 in my stack at the 100/200, 25 ante level. I didn’t win any pots and was down to 2500 when I shipped allin from the cutoff with KQ and was called by the bigblind who held AJ. I didnt hit and that was that.
I will play quite a few tourneys down here even allthough I havent made a schedule for this or something (apart from the Main Event), but I’m pretty sure I’ll play the 10k$ PLO on Saturday and the 5k$ shorthanded no limit holdem event. Apart from that I’ll just go with the flow and play what I feel like playing. I will write updates on my twitter while playing, my profile is: StephanTeamRK
I will also make a few blogs when I play/finished playing.
Have a great summer!
